Clarecastle/Ballyea had a good start in the Div. 2 Camogie League first round on Saturday evening with a win over Clooney/Quin in Clooney.  

Clooney/Quin were first to register a point from Emer Moynihan while Clarecastle/Ballyea had 3 unanswered points from Doireann Murphy (2f), and Ria Flanagan (1). The host responded with scores from Orlaith Duggan (1) and a goal from Niamh McGee while the visitors followed with further points from Murphy (0-3 1f), and Grace Russell. Emer Moynihan scored her side their second goal in the 25th minute, while just before the half time whistle Murphy grabbed a goal from a free to level the score at the interval 1-7 to 2-4.

In the second half Clooney/Quin topped over four points from play while Doireann Murphy gave her side a timely boast scoring her second goal from a penalty and a further two points. Both sides continued to exchange points.  In the 20th minute Clooney/Quin were rewarded a penalty which was saved by Doireann Murphy only to be scored on the rebound by Orlaith Duggan. In the closing 10 minutes further points from Aoife Corry (2), Emma O’Connell and Murphy was enough to hold onto a four point margin on their opponents to get a deserved win.  
The Clarecastle/Ballyea backline, in particular Emma O’Connell, Hannah Dinan, Ciara O’Dell and Molly McMahon fought hard throughout for their side.
