A fantastic effort from our U13 lads today at the Lisdowney 7s Cup Finals, where they represented Clarecastle brilliantly against some of the very best underage hurling teams Kilkenny has to offer.
The lads got the day off to a great start with a 3-08 to 1-05 quarter-final win over Emeralds, earning a place in the Sweeney Cup semi-final.
There they faced Danesfort in a cracking game. Clarecastle gave absolutely everything and pushed them all the way, eventually going down by the narrowest of margins – 3-08 to 3-05, just one goal between the sides.
To travel to Kilkenny and reach the last four of the Sweeney Cup, in a competition of this quality, is a tremendous achievement. The lads competed fearlessly, worked incredibly hard for one another and showed that they can hold their own against top-class opposition.
O'Loughlin Gaels went on to win the Sweeney Cup outright, which gives a sense of the standard of hurling on show today.
A huge well done to all ten players. They should be very proud of how they represented Clarecastle, their teammates and their families. Days like today will stand to them enormously as they continue to develop.
