2024 Vetting & Qualifications

The club is currently conducting an audit of vetting and qualifications for the 2024 season.

Please make sure your Tobar account is syncd to Foireann so the records for the club are up to date.  Doing this will stop a lot of the back and forth queries. See below in FAQ "How do I check my qualifications? for instructions.

Please take note of the following:

• Adults involved with underage teams in any capacity must ensure that they have the appropriate qualifications for their role.

• Qualifications vary depending on the role and it is up to the individual to ensure that they have valid qualifications throughout the season.

• Vetting and Safeguarding are legal requirements.  Individuals who do not hold these qualifications will not be allowed to be involved with underage teams in any code.

• Team Activities may be restricted if the appropriate qualifications are not held by the coaching panel.

• All members of coaching panels must be paid up members of the club.

FAQs

What qualifications do I need?

Vetting and Safeguarding 1 are required for all adults involved with underage players for all codes in the club.

• Further information about the requirements for your role can be found on Tobar (formerly GAA Learning) in the Coach Education section.

• Referees in the club are also required to complete training.

How to apply for vetting

All vetting applications must be done online through your own Foireann account.  If you do not have a Foireann account you must create one.

• Once you get logged in click on “Profile” on the left hand menu and use the Qualifications tab to process your application.

• You must print, sign and upload the validation form.  Your application will not be processed without this form - https://www.gaa.ie/api/pdfs/image/upload/efwiur0hg3sapz40zdvp.pdf

• Make sure you upload the correct documents as proof of identity - see list here

• If your application contains errors it will be rejected and you will have to resubmit your documents.

• The processing of applications will take at least 2 weeks but can take longer during busy periods.  This is outside the control of the club.  Please ensure you apply in time for new applications or for renewals.

How do I check my qualifications?

Vetting

• Vetting applications are valid for 3 years.

• Check your email for confirmation if you believe you have completed vetting in the last 3 years.

• If you cannot find proof of your vetting contact the club's Children's Officer by email at childrensofficer.clarecastle.clare@gaa.ie.  If a valid record cannot be found by the Children's Officer and you cannot provide evidence of vetting you will have to reapply.

Qualifications (e.g.Safeguarding)

• Check the requirements for your role and make sure you have valid certificates for all of them.

• Tobar is the new name for GAA Learning.  Your qualifications should be listed on your Tobar account.

• If you had an account on Tobar you will need to “sync” the information to your Foireann account.  This is a straightforward process and instructions are available on YouTube

• If your qualifications are not visible on your Tobar account you will have to provide alternative evidence that you have a valid qualification.

• If proof of a valid qualification is not available you will have to participate on a course.

Face to Face Safeguarding 1 is valid for 3 years.  After 3 years the online refresher can be taken, this will extend the qualification by another 3 years, after which time a Face to Face training must take place again.

How do I book a course?

• You must use Tobar to enrol on a course, even if the course will be carried out face to face.

• The list of upcoming courses is on the Coach Ed page on Tobar.

• Face to Face Safeguarding courses will need an enrolment key.  Courses organised by Clarecastle GAA will have keys available for club members.  Numbers may be limited.

• It is not possible to attend a training course if you have not enrolled online before it starts.

• The club's Children's Officer may be able to request an enrolment key for courses at other clubs that may have spaces.  Email childrensofficer.clarecastle.clare@gaa.ie with queries.

Sports Partnership Safeguarding

• The current position (Feb 2024) from the GAA is “We do recognise the Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 workshop which is delivered by Sports Partnership.”

• If you hold a Sports Partnership Safeguarding qualification you must enrol on the Online Safeguarding 1 Refresher course on Tobar.  The enrolment key for the course is Munster24

What will happen if I don't have qualifications?

• You won't be able to participate with teams if you do not have the appropriate qualifications.

• A team cannot train or play unless at least one coach who has done the Foundation Course is present at the session.

What's the big deal about qualifications?

The welfare of our children.  The future and reputation of our club.  The law.
