Clarecastle were crowned U13B County Champions on Saturday evening after a tough final encounter with Smith O’Brien’s in Shannon Camogie Pitch.
Smith O’Brien’s got their first and only score of the first half with Grace Cusack finding the net in the first minute of the game which was followed by two pointed frees from Chroia Casey. Keeva Moloney eye for goals in the 12th & 22nd minute gave her side a 2-2 to 1-0 lead at the break.
Two minutes into the second half Chroia Casey pointed the only score from play, while both sides exchanged points from frees. This was an immense performance with some excellent defensive play through out the game led by full back Mairead McNamara kept Smith O’Brien’s scoreless from play which was enough for Clarecastle to hold on to a 5 point victory to be crowned champions on a 2-4 to 1-2 score line.
Afterwards Joint Captains Mairead McNamara and Chroia Casey accepted the first Cup in memory of Kitty McNicholas on behalf of their team.
